Life is a series of transitions: new experiences, new jobs, job loss, illness, accidents, death, divorces, marriages, moving to a new city or country, starting college, new schools, natural disasters, empty nesting, new children, new primary relationships, role changes, new careers, retirement, aging, and more.
Life transitions may be planned or can be unexpected. They may be positive or negative. Even planned positive transitions can be uncomfortable at first, yet life-changing, full of unexpected consequences as you venture into the new, albeit planned new experience.
What you experience as a major transition or shift requiring some life transition counseling and coaching may not affect another person in the same way. For example, someone who has always moved a lot as part of their job may be able to integrate the next move quite easily without needing help to adjust to the change. But someone who has lived in the same place for many years and then needs to move because of their job may need some assistance from me to shift to the new circumstances.
Transitions can make you feel anxious and even fearful. However every transitional shift is an opportunity, an opportunity to grow, to question the beliefs that you have been living with, and an opportunity to become someone who you may never have imagined that you could become. Change may be uncomfortable, but alongside the discomfort, together we can find positive aspects. You can discover strengths you didn’t know you had and you can discover new opportunities to explore what you really want out of life and what is most important to you. A time of transition can result in a sense of renewal, stability, a new or renewed sense of purpose, and a new outlook on life.
I can help you manage your transitions and help you to learn to take care of yourself in the process. This includes building a support system, or utilizing one you already have, to identify and effectively deal with a variety of feelings that will come up, taking good care of yourself and sticking to your good habits, avoiding your bad habits. I can help you leave the past behind and help you learn to embrace your new opportunities. I can teach you to give yourself time and space to adjust to what is new, and to gently ponder all the opportunities that await you.
My counseling and coaching will help support you and your situation specifically. When I work with you I deepen my understanding of the situation that you are experiencing, and help you discover where you are going next, and how to get there successfully.
Whether it is a major change such as divorce, death, loss of a job, loss of your life’s purpose or any area of your life that has you feeling uprooted and uncertain of your security and stability, I can help you explore options around your life transitions with strategies on how to best step into your new life with an open and gracious heart.
